"Church Lady"

Back to Cake it Pretty...

This cake was for a wedding shower and, of course, was strawberry and vanilla to match the decorated colors. This cake has a unique story behind it--here it goes...

A few weeks ago at church, I was talking to a friend about a cake I am making for her and Melinda ("church lady") overheard us talking. She turned around and introduced herself and started asking about my cakes. Not surprisingly, I was THRILLED! At the end of our conversation I gave her the link to my blog. A few days later I received the sweetest email from her--titled church lady--and she requested a cake! Thanks for making my day, Melinda!

"Cake it Tough"

This cake has been much anticipated for about a month now. When Jess and I first talked about the cake design, she said I would have to temporarily change the name to "Cake it Tough"... so, for a few minutes it will be.

Jess has been wanting to make Grant a bike polo cake since his birthday last year and I am so glad I could help make it happen this weekend! I don't claim to know much about bike polo (everything I know about it I have learned in the last month) but I like what I've heard!

I am typically not a "skull" type of person, but I am more than happy to make an exception for this cake : )

3-2-1-POLO!

It's a boy...

The sweetest baby rattles I've ever seen!

The only way these were finished in time is because Morgan assumed the role of my sous chef for this one : )

Congrats Chelsea and Ben!

I love that the simplicity of this cake is what makes it pretty.

Happy 8th Birthday!

When you are 8 years old and your brother has a cool cake for his birthday, it only makes sense that you would have to out-do his cake! Hopefully I succeeded in showing that girls rule and boys drool.

This cake makes me wish I was 8 years old and could be going to play laser tag and have slumber parties again.

Hope you have a happy birthday Rachel!

Lee Ann is a PILOT!!!

Lee Ann got her pilot license last week so, of course, we had to surprise her with a celebration at work!

She was very surprised but should have known a cake would have her name on it for something so amazing : )

The cake was key lime... yummmmm!

If some is good, more is better...

As if I don't bake enough as it is, I just can't resist a wonderful baking day with Mollie! The motto of this baking day was, "if some is good... more is better!" I think we should consider changing this to our permanent motto because it is SO TRUE to us!

Baking day list... where the fun begins!

Pretty much the best ice cream cake ever! The recipe just said to cover the cake, but that was simply not acceptable. Mollie says this is the difference between just making it and "caking it pretty!"

Sooooo good!

Some of the mess--we have finally learned to clean as we go (we missed Beth cleaning up after us since this was the first baking day in Mollie's house!)

Yes people, that is ONE POUND of chocolate!

...add more chocolate chips and peanut butter chips and you have a pretty tasty cookie : )

These next few are for you, Gran.

"WHYYYY?" The perfect depiction of our confusion as to why flour is packaged this way... always makes a mess!

Strawberry cupcakes!

Before the lemon bars....

...and after!

Just taking a break from cleaning up : )

A very successful baking day! No real egg-cidents (just almost)!!!

Stock the Bar Shower

I love how fun this cake is. However, it wasn't so fun to make--here is what happened. After making the Wizard of Oz cake I got up early in the morning to make this cake before work so I would just have to decorate it after driving home. When I opened the oven I realized it was CHOCOLATE and was supposed to be strawberry--that's when I knew it would be a long day. So, when I got home I made the strawberry cake (and now there's a layer of chocolate in the middle).

I can't take credit for the olive idea but it is soooo cute!

There's No Place Like Home

Lee Ann is my "baking buddy" at work and this cake was for her mom's birthday. A couple of years ago, Lee Ann made 70 different cakes for her dad's 70th birthday... so she wanted to make something special for her mom this year.
*Beware if you know me well and have a "significant" birthday coming up... you could be getting that many cakes because I am definitely using such a great idea!!!

Laura was asking me last night about my favorite cakes so I named a few but I wasn't finished with this one yet. This cake is definitely at the TOP of my favorites list now : )

Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road....

Glo

I made these cupcake pops for Wells Plastic Surgery and Skin Care. They are having a Spring Shopping Day and Glo Mineral Makeup Event today.

Personally, I think the best "glo" your skin can have comes as a direct result of eating cake--or so I'd like to think : ) ha ha

Every time I make a cake I always learn something. Last night it was not about cake but about timing. Note to self: don't start something tedious late at night, EVERYTHING will take longer! Maybe I will start taking this advice next week... I am already preparing myself for the late start and late finish ahead of me on Thursday! Sleep becomes less important when I could be spending my time "caking it pretty!"

This was my attempt to channel Eric's creativity for inspiration for these pictures. : )

This cake was for a 3 year old named Amirah! Hopefully she will be dancing when she sees her cake : )

Hard Core Egg Hunters!

Happy Easter!
We spent Easter at Gran and Peewee's battling it out in the back yard to find the most eggs (even though the effort was pointless because Brad totally dominated). The intensity was greater this year as the egg count was increased and trivia questions were added. **No, this wasn't to entertain younger kids... Lauren is the youngest and she is 19 : ) The circles on the cake are the Easter eggs we were hunting.

The cutest eggs EVER!
