Let the wedding caking begin....
Amazingly, I managed to not have any "egg-cidents"..... Mollie--I know you are proud!
The layers were alternating key lime cake and white wedding cake : )
The mess begins....
....and continues! I did much more damage by myself this weekend than Mollie and I have ever done on a baking day.
Lee Ann--thanks for letting me use your mixer, I'd still be working on it! You may want to give it a break for a while... I worked it pretty hard : )
Stage 1! This is when I first realized that it would get finished.
Stage 2! (A very simplified Stage 2... still rough around the bottoms)
Ready for the VERY HOT car ride. Morgan is the absolute greatest cake driver ever and even though it makes her nervous, she helps me out tremendously by doing it. Relief is an understatement for how we felt when the cakes returned to air conditioning this afternoon!
TA DA! Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome for the first time.... Shaina and Joshua's wedding cake : )
With the pretty bridesmaids flowers.
Gorgeous cake for the gorgeous bride and groom.
Celebrating with 275 guests requires lots (and lots) of cake. There were also two sheet cakes!
Expressing my deep love for my first wedding cake!!!
With the love birds. Congrats Shaina and Joshua! Shaina--your expression to me after seeing the cake was priceless, I am so glad it was everything you imagined!
Someone has to cut it...
In the process of cutting the bottom layer. The best compliment that I got about the cake all day was seeing people come back for another piece--that's what counts!
While it turned out to be a much bigger undertaking than I had first thought, I wouldn't have changed one thing about it. I loved being able to make your cake, Shaina and Joshua, THANK YOU so much for letting me.

Congrats Brittney and Mack!
When Brittney first mentioned making Mack's grooms cake she knew it would have to be of his truck! She said he used to love this truck and I am so glad I could recreate it in cake form : )
These people were Morgan's idea and it wouldn't be the same without them!!!
Just married...
As a side note, I had the opportunity to meet the woman who made the wedding cake and we got to talk cakes for about an hour and a half and I loved EVERY minute of it! Such a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Slumber Party!!!
There are several neat connections from this cake to different people. A few weeks ago at Keeneland Beth was talking to someone who had recently moved to Lexington and somehow their conversation led into cakes (shouldn't every conversation, though?) I am so excited I was able to make this cake for her daughter who is turning 10! The best part is that she was actually in Whitney's class at Cassidy during student teaching : )
I will be making a cake for another slumber party for her 8-year-old next week so "stay tuned." : )

Do the John Wall...
Seriously, what could be more famous than the John Wall dance? When Paige first mentioned the idea of making Nathaneal a graduation cake there was no question that it was going to be UK basketball themed.
The original idea for this cake was to have " him" standing up... but since the cake has to travel, we decided to make it flat. Either way, it still represents the last year of UK basketball--which is probably just as exciting to Thoneal as graduation : )
Check out the "elastic band" on the shorts : )
The John Wall dance has been made famous in many arenas... but now for the most important of all--welcome to the cake world!
From celebrating basketball to graduation... still going strong with the John Wall dance! Congrats Thoneal!

Miss Morgan's Mega Masterpiece (titled by Nick!)
Morgan knew I had several cakes this weekend and didn't want to add to my list so she insisted I not make her a cake. BUT I couldn't resist.... it's what I do!
What "teacher cake" is complete without a ruler border, chalk board and chalk, an apple and notebook paper with letters?
I surprised her with the cake tonight and she LOVED it!!! Congrats Miss Morgan-- you'll be an amazing teacher!
